April 14, 2016 — Gould Academy is excited to announce Andrew Bishop as its new assistant head of school for enrollment management.
“Andrew Bishop is exceptionally well qualified to to lead Gould’s admissions efforts,” Matt Ruby, Head of School for Gould Academy, says. “He has had tremendous success at Berwick Academy and will be an invaluable member of our Senior Administration Team and community.”
Effective July 1, 2016, Bishop will leave Berwick after five successful years as their director of admission and financial aid.
In addition to his work in admissions, Bishop’s professional experience includes having taught English at Cushing Academy (2005-2007) and Berwick Academy (2007-2010). He also spent a year within an Admission Field Study at Harlem Academy (2010-2011), and still serves as a consultant and senior staff member at Elk Creek Ranch in Cody, Wyoming.
An active member of the independent school community, Bishop’s past responsibilities include administrator, teacher, coach, and dorm head. In 2015 he was a guest presenter at the SSS & SSATB National Conference, and in 2010 was selected to be a guest presenter at the National Council of Teachers of English’s National Conference. In 2009 he participated in a two-week Klingenstein Summer Institute study on private school education.
Additionally, Bishop is the 2009 National Endowment for the Humanities grant recipient of the John Steinbeck, Voice of Region, Voice of America, and was a Cushing Academy Teacher of the Year finalist in 2007 – the same year Cushing Academy students dedicated their yearbook to him.

Bishop is a graduate of The Groton School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Hobart And William Smith Colleges and a Masters of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia University’s Teaching College.
He and his wife Kyle have two children, Carter and Beckett.
