USASA National Championships Snowboarding Week in Review

Bethel, Maine – The Gould Academy Competition Program (GACP) Snowboard Team recently wrapped up a long week of competition at the USASA National Championships being held at Copper Mountain in Colorado. The GACP Freeskiing Team is currently there competing.

“What an amazing week!” Coach KC Gandee said. “The USASA National Championships is the largest snowboard event in the world with over 1,200 competitors this season ages 5-70, and when you look at our overall stats, our athletes did a phenomenal job.”

With 50 starts total, the GACP Snowboard Team ended last week with 34 Top 25 finishes (68%), 22 Top 10 finishes (44%), and 9 podium placements (18%) including 2 bronze medals (4%), 4 silver medals (8%), and 3 gold medals (6%).

Those GACP student-athletes who contributed to these results include:

Emma Lieb ’16 – who competed within the Jams Women division (18-22 year-olds). Lieb won both National Championship races in Slalom and Giant Slalom and placed 5th in her division’s Boardercross race to win the consolation final.

Emma Scheidegger ’16 – who competed in the Junior Women’s division (16-17 year-olds) and secured her second silver medal in Boardercross. Scheidegger also won a silver medal at last year’s USASA National Championship.

Richie Hoge ’17 – who took 1st place in the Junior Men’s division (16-17 year-olds) Boardercross race.

Liam Maguire ’18 – who placed 3rd in the Youth Men’s division (14-15 year-olds) Boardercross race.

And up-and-comers Tyler Hamel and Aiden Mahoney. Hamel competed in the Menehune Boy’s division (10-11 year-olds) and placed 2nd in Giant Slalom and Slalom, 4th in Boardercross, 12th in Halfpipe, and 13th in Slopestyle to secure a 3rd place overall finish. Mahoney competed in the Breaker Boy’s division (12-13 year-olds) and placed 5th overall including an 8th place finish in Boardercross.

Thank you Adalia Flores ’18, Milly Detels ’18 and Emma Scheidegger ’16. #werusasa #gouldlife #usasa #usasanats2016 #shakenbake #sbxlife
