Whats five more miles? When the last time I ran something with a set start time and a stopwatch attached was the presidential fitness mile in middle school. To me five more miles sounded like something I did not want to think about. As your probably thinking why I even signed up to run a half marathon and why in my training I didn’t run more than eight miles. Well first my friends convinced me they would run the race with me, that didn’t happen and second I attempted to train and found running incredibly boring.
Which brings me to my finial five miles, I ran this past Sunday in New Market, New Hampshire in the Great Bay half marathon with a group from Gould. All of who had run before and their lives and were well prepared for this day. I was ready though, I had gotten through the hardest part, I believed I could do it. I told myself that I could do it and that I was strong enough to complete the task. I did not relay on the support of others or what they had to say about me running. I told myself that this was something that I could do.
People often place their self worth in the hands of others, allowing other people to define who they are and control the boundaries of their abilities. As you grow, let your self explore new opportunities whether its taking an english elective or trying a new sport. Everyone has limitations, it’s what we do with those limitations that makes us who we are. Its debating between presenting in front of your class or creating a audio voice over. Running the half marathon or stepping down to the five-K. You can handle success and you can handle failure, but you will never learn if you don’t fall. Try something new, I mean whats five more miles
Congrats to everyone who went and ran the half marathon and the five-K, all receiving amazing participation medals.
