Dear Gould Community,
On behalf of the Gould Academy Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee, I’m excited to announce that Christopher Gorycki has been named Interim Head of School for Gould Academy, effective July 1, 2018. After a thorough search, Chris received unanimous support from both the search committee and the full board.

Interim Head of School Christopher Gorycki
Chris has served as the Interim Head of School at Cambridge Friends School in Cambridge, Massachusetts since 2016. Prior to that position, Chris was the Headmaster at Kent School in Chestertown, Maryland from 2011-2016. From 2002-2011, Chris served as Middle School Head and Assistant Head of School at the Montgomery School in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Chris began his teaching career at The Fenn School in 1987 and held several positions there over 15 years, including classroom teacher, advisor, ice hockey and lacrosse coach, and Director of Admission and Financial Aid. Chris is originally from New York City. He attended Salisbury School in Connecticut as a boarding student and is a graduate of C.W Post/Long Island University (1987) where he earned a B.S. in health and physical education, and Columbia University (2005) where he earned an M.A. in educational leadership. He and his wife, Cri-Cri, have been married for 27 years and have two children – Taylor, a daughter who recently graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and a son Christopher, who will be a junior at High Point University in North Carolina.
“As soon as I stepped onto campus, it was clear to me that Gould is a special place,” says Gorycki. “The community is composed of an intelligent and diverse student body, an equally talented faculty and staff, and is completed by the supportive and caring parents and trustees.”

Mr. Gorycki with his family; son Christopher, wife Cri-Cri, and daughter Taylor.
In his interactions with faculty, staff, students, and parents throughout the day that he spent on campus with us, Chris demonstrated his ability to engage and communicate well with all Gould constituencies. After extensive discussions with Chris and his former colleagues, the board is confident that he has the skills to lead and further strengthen the school. He has a valuable perspective as a former head of school and interim head, and has a demonstrated track record of working toward resolution of difficult issues.
“I was moved by the polite and respectful demeanor of the students whom I met and impressed by their thoughtful questions and insightful comments,” says Gorycki. “I appreciated their focus on inclusivity and social justice, two areas that I have learned a great deal about during my time at Cambridge Friends School. Great schools are great not solely because of their impressive facilities or challenging curriculum, but because of the committed members within the community. My wife Cri-Cri and I are very excited to be joining what we believe to be a great school.”
Chris’s unanimous selection by the board of trustees is a testament to the diligent and detailed work of our search committee. On behalf of the board, I again thank our committee members and each of you for your support and exceptional contribution to this important process. I’d like to thank Matt and Kathy Ruby as well, for their service to the school and for being extremely gracious and helpful throughout this transition. With you, I look forward to the future.
Please join me in welcoming Chris and his family to Gould Academy.
Warmly,
Phyllis Gardiner P’09
President, Gould Academy Board of Trustees
