The Gould Academy Board of Trustees welcomed an alumnus and the parent of a current student to its ranks when Leo Menard III ’03 and Gregory Young P’19 were elected to serve. “We are thrilled to have Leo and Greg join the board,” says Phyllis Gardiner P’09, Board President. “Their business acumen, curiosity, and enthusiasm for the school will make them valuable members of the board, and I look forward to working with them.”
Leo Menard III ’03
Leo is a proud alumnus of Gould Academy and Bates College. Leo has been an active volunteer for Gould for several years, including serving on the Alumni Board, and has served as a Class Agent at Bates College since his graduation.
“The memorable experiences and friendships developed while at Gould have left an unmistakable mark on who I have become,” says Leo. “Since becoming more involved, my appreciation for the incredible foundation it offers students to grow and develop their passions has compounded. I am energized and excited for the opportunity to join the board and help shape the future direction of the school.”
Currently, Leo is the Business Development Director at EnerNOC, a provider of energy management software solutions for commercial, industrial, and institutional customers. A decorated alpine ski racer at Gould, Leo served as the Captain of the Bates ski team, was an Academic All-American, competed in two NCAA Division I championships, and one US National Championships. Leo lives in Brunswick, Maine with his wife Liz and son.
Gregory Young P’19
Though not a Gould alumnus, Greg’s family has a long and continuing connection to western Maine and to Gould. Greg’s daughter, Aerin, is a member of the class of 2019 and the tenth member of Greg’s family to attend Gould.
“As a third generation Mainer with deep roots in the Bethel community I am both honored and delighted to be elected onto the Gould Academy Board of Trustees,” says Greg. “With the rapidly changing landscape of education, I look forward to utilizing my experience to help propel Gould Academy forward.”
After graduating from Ithaca College, Greg had a successful career in the commodities business as a managing partner of Glencore, where he worked for 25 years. Since leaving Glencore, Greg has been an active philanthropist and business owner. Greg’s philanthropic focus is the BeFoundation, a family foundation dedicated to improving the lives and educational outcomes of low-income students and the vitality of their communities in Greg’s home state of Connecticut. Greg also serves on the board of the Fairfield Theatre Company and is the owner of Peachwave Frozen Yogurt. He lives on a restored farm in Redding, Connecticut with his wife Cathy and their five children.
