Brian Walker

Author, teacher, and alumnus Brian Walker will give this year’s address at Gould Academy’s 185th Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 22.

A four-year student from the class of ’83, Walker grew up in East Cleveland, Ohio. After Gould, he studied English and journalism at Ohio Wesleyan (double major) and returned to Cleveland as a newspaper reporter for a year.

He also returned to Gould for three years, and then moved to Cambridge School of Weston for 23 years to teach English, coach basketball, and
work in Admissions. He moved to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, in 2015, but Hurricane Irma chased him back to the US in 2017. He says his next book will most likely be about surviving the category 5 storm with two small children.
Walker has won a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for the Arts and numerous awards for playwriting, short stories, and journalism. He now teaches English at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School and lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children—Olivia and Archie.

Gould Academy will hold an in-person Commencement ceremony this year, with a small number of seniors participating remotely from other parts of the globe. Due to the pandemic, attendance will be limited to immediate family only. There will be a Livestream broadcast of the event.
