Prep Friday – February 26

On Friday, the Prep team traveled to Libby Hill Forest Trails in Gray for a Nonstop Nordic Race. The race was held at night under the full moon, but racers braved icy conditions and some dark corners. The team had a fantastic final competition, with Hannah Grohman winning the high school girls’ race, Dylan Greenberg finishing 2nd in the high school boys’ race, and Nolan Raymond placing 9th.
Reese Furneaux won the girls’ middle school race.

Comp Saturday – February 27

On Saturday, the Comp boys traveled to the Maine Eastern State Championship. This event replaced the NENSA U16 and Eastern High School races, which traditionally cap off the season in March, with each state hosting its own event.
The Maine championships took place at Quarry Road Trails in Waterville, ME. The day was split into two groups by region in order to keep venue capacity at under 100 people. Gould raced in the second group of the day and braved very wet conditions.
The boys raced with grit and had some great finishes. In the 5k skate, Nate Livingood came in 5th, Eli Shifrin 8th, Utah Bean 9th, and Marcus Goodbody 11th. In the second race, a XCX race featuring slalom, jumps, and bumps, Nate Livingood won, Eli Shifrin placed 5th, Utah Bean 8th, and Marcus Goodbody 24th.

Championship Sunday

The girls then had their turn at the Maine Eastern State Championship event. The weather on Sunday was the opposite of Saturday with blue sky, warm temperatures, and fast snow. In the 5k skate, Eliza Skillings raced to 2nd, and Ella Raymond came in 22nd. In the XCX event, Eliza again finished 2nd, and Ella came in 15th.
All of the skiers gave it their best at their respective events this weekend, and we are thrilled to have so many events to cap off a season of racing!
