
Two Gould athletes are headed to 2020 Winter Youth Olympics, Lausanne 2020, this week.
Maxx Parys ’20 will represent U.S. Ski & Snowboard, with the first alpine competitions kicking off in Les Diablerets, Villars and Lausanne on January 10, the day after the Opening Ceremony in Lausanne and continuing until the Closing Ceremony on January 22. Maxx will be competing in super-G, super combined, giant slalom, slalom, and the team event. The schedule is out and promises to be intense. Overall, a total of 81 competitions will be held at eight different sites
“It’s pretty awesome to have an athlete come up through our program and be selected to compete at the Youth Olympics,” says alpine coach Parker Gray ’97. “We are all very proud of Maxx. I’m excited to see how he stacks up against the best in the world his age. I think he’ll do great!”
Dali Gao ’22 got a bid for China for the Youth Olympic Games in Snowboardcross (SBX).

“To compete at this level takes a huge commitment from everyone involved,” says On-Snow Program Director Kurt Simard. “Maxx and Dali have taken advantage of everything that Gould has to offer, both on the hill and in the classroom. This is a special piece of their journey. We are proud. It’s great to know we can be elite worldwide.”

Snowboard and Freeski athletes will compete in halfpipe, slopestyle/big air, and ski/SBX events through January 22. Lausanne is known as the “Olympic Capital,” and has been the home of the modern Olympic Movement for more than 100 years. More than 50 international sporting organizations are based in this region. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) serves to inspire the next generation to embody the Olympic values of Respect, Friendship, and Excellence. Competing in a location so steeped in Olympic history and tradition will set the tone for what is sure to be an awesome few weeks of competition.
